People buy what they think will work best for them - considering cost, etc. On the desktop this is generally Windows and sometimes Macs... with Macs getting the highest user satisfaction ratings. On phones this is generally Samsung or Apple devices... with the Apple devices getting the highest user satisfaction ratings. On tablets this is generally the iPad (or mini version) or an Android / similar device - with the Apple devices getting the highest user satisfaction ratings. Microsoft does well in one area. Android / Linux does well in two of the areas. Apple does well in all three... but Apple has to be careful - their customer satisfaction scores are reportedly slipping. And they need to show their promised Pro hardware pretty soon... and show that they can have iOS and OS X keep up the level of innovation they used to show but has been slowing down some. Apple does well - but consumers owe them nothing. If they do not keep innovating and working to make their products better than they *will* stop earning the highest user satisfaction ratings. Jobs was fanatical about high quality... and even under him there were lots of errors (happens to anyone willing to take risks). Without him will Apple keep up the same levels of quality? Will the new shake-up in the management "fix" things? Will others show the same level of innovation and focus on excellence and catch up to Apple... in many ways from what I have seen Android already has. The next few years will be interesting to watch in the tech world. -- "It is often hard to persuade the developers of one component to do what improves the system as a whole rather than what will make their own component more useful and successful." -- Richard Stallman

Quoting Cola⋅Zealot's link,
http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.nl/2011/07/six-signs-android-really-isnt-linux.html
Android applications are all java based,
meaning you need an emulator like <Alien Dalvik>
to get them to run on other platforms.
...
<Up to 15$ per Android handset sold is going to Microsoft>
...
You know what is fairly unique to Android though ?
Claiming to be open source and then only releasing your
source code to a select few hardware makers.
...
Android is just as much Linux based as OSX is BSD based.

What's "not healthy", Mr. "cipher" ? I'm a long time MicroSoft coder / Usenet participant... so what ? Should I be more like Mr. "Gobin" and play roll⋅paying games ? Usenet is cool, I enjoy it.

I'd suggest you learn to spell "role" before trying to play "Role Play" games though. I'd also suggest you actually check out what Warhammer 40k is, it's no more a roleplay game than Command and Conquer - difference being its on a board and you usually paint and build the troops yourself. It's also a great way for my young lad to improve his mathematics (with dice roles etc) and something which he really enjoys playing. Got a problem with that Jeff? Don't think its a good idea? Oh and how are you reading my posts to know I play the game? I thought you had me "plonked"? When you (Goblin) first replied to my post, 7jiPs.3999$vz.1823@fx25.fr7, you mentioned "Grey Knight Terminator", a WarHammer 40k character. That's how I knew; I Googled it. It's "Halberd", by the way, not "Halbard". Usenet has been a better use of my time than 40k would've been, I think, because it taught me email/communication skills. If I had a son, I'd teach him programming too, not 40k.

Didn't ask that.... I thought you were not reading my posts (as per your proud proclamation over on comp.os.linux.advocacy) I get it, that large list of all the people you claim to not read - You don't read the posts, unless you do and reply to them. Got it. > Usenet has been a better use of my time than 40k would've been, > I think, because it taught me email/communication skills. Having read your "work" really? Ok. Email skills? yep there's a plethora of them to have over on Usenet. Communication? Yep, I've read your posts (although this is the first time I think I've ever even tried talking to you).... That's communication is it? And you've been learning from your efforts? Ok. > > If I had a son, I'd teach him programming too, not 40k. Yep, you could give him a rich and fulfilling life by teaching him all the communication you have picked up from Usenet. 4 and a half is a little young to be learning to program, a game that doesn't involve sitting in front of a computer by himself and teaches mathematics as well as decision making is a far better way of learning. But then what would you know? You don't have a son, just your communication skills from using "cool" Usenet. Usenet is very much like email; so, yes, I've learned "email" skills here on Usenet. Before Usenet, my English skill were far worse. eMail is vital to my work ( as a coder and a manager ), it's uber essential, seriously. You (Goblin) sound angry, never a good sign. As I you should've surmised by now: I read ALL replies to me, and I might reply to ANYONE. When "Plonked" nyms aren't replying to me, their posts are marked "Was⋅Read", initially.

Put in the light of like attributes (shared by both trollers) your sense of the ridiculous being hilarious may strengthen? ^Both hold a depth of despise for CLI, not universally shared. That chagrin displayed ably in their insistence on changing Usenet interfaces to fit the all dancing all singing GUI "dumbed down" environment they both leech offn. ^Both believe they are accomplished code writers, unpublished. That small anomaly in their lives being excused internally by their belief they are as yet undiscovered geniuses! haw haw. ^Both are sexually amorphous, although Derbyshire does display an effeminate outlook, reflected in his choice to run female personas as a preference. It could be concluded Derbyshire would engage with a male IF he could find a body which would accept his weirdo ideologies. ^Both are completely immersed in themselves, to the point there is no Life beyond the frame of that GUI stared at 24/7. Luckily for Usenet this facet is their undoing as the shared experiences of many owning differing POV truly bring them frothing to the keyboard. ^Both are bottom of the barrel losers, living wholly sustained on handouts. Whilst not an uncommon feature of many Usenet publicists today it is rare to find others so dedicated in bringing turmoil as personal satisfaction, all the while losing, bigtime. There is however one singe significant difference. Relf is relatively harmless, a dribbling baboon whose work is easily deleted, Derbyshire, not so. Paul G D has a bent... one that is maybe dangerous to the unwary, revenge. Two factors which are absolutes for Paul G D. 1. His posts will always challenge, in a defense mode. 2. His posting techniques are all stolen, he copies and uses what he sees as having "worked". The most recent foray is to entrap the innocent as a means to silencing those critics. The method is simple, done before, successfully. 1. A post is made owning content which may inflame someone outside of Usenet. 2. The post - through a campaign of "s/h/e done it" - is attributed to the target. 3. The righteous (informant) email is then deployed. Using that same mix of odds which makes the Nigerian scam so successful there is a very good chance of a someone bringing litigation, not against Derbyshire the instigator but against his target. The purpose of which is only to incur financial burdens on the target. (one admission is here - <kemhvc$9p1$2 @news.albasani.net> with both Wilson/kensi sox "at it") Derbyshire's most recent campaign - in which he attempted to incite the owner of a business into litigation - fell flat when his claim the target had taken photos of a lot were proven to be Google Earth images fabricated by Derbyshire himself no less.
