Oh, how modified is this kernel from the mainline kernel now? Do share your wisdom with us... It will good for a few laughs. > And Android is non-Free software developed by real developers at > for-profit corporations. Notice how badly Ubuntu Phone has failed. Wrong. Android is open source. That's why Amazon took it and used to as the basis of their Kindle Fire products. It's completely free for anyone to do such things. >> It has adopted in Super Computing to about 99%. > > Well, that's about 500 computers. It does. You just don't know how to read. What does it say about *active servers* bozo. And let me clue you on something else that might blow your little brain. If I create a web server on IIS that counts as one. If Facebook creates several web servers and those service more than one billion active users per day, is one of their web servers of equal weight to one of mine, which services just me? I know, logic is a bitch ain't it. >> When Steve Jobs wanted to created the >> next operating system of the future, he started with the Mach kernel and >> created NeXTStep. Calling Android non-free is not entirely correct. After all, the source code is available to lots of small companies who use it to make their own flavour of it omitting unnecessary things like the Google suite of software which ARE non-free. As for being an "advocate," that's fine but I don't believe that I am one since I'm still fairly honest about my experience and the problems I'm facing or faced. > It's like you howler monkeys see a shiny chart with an upward sloping > Linux curve, and reality just disappears from your peabrains. I said I _welcomed_ the migration, not that it's necessarily happening. Gamers will be better served by Windows for the foreseeable future since few companies are willing to invest in developing for Linux as a result of its market being so small. However, they might be tempted to make less graphic-intensive games which work on Android (or the same kind which would work on more powerful Android devices) and doing so would not make it difficult to port the same game to Linux. Speaking of the latter, I had to uninstall it yesterday because it kept freezing after I had dared to install quodlibet, gmusicbrowser and guayadeque at the same time and then removed all three. I'm not sure _what_ happened exactly but gstreamer ended up having some terrible conflict which ended up freezing the computer and overheating the CPU. The only thing which points me in that direction is the fact that some .OGG files played, others refused to and any song I changed the rating on became corrupted. I tried fixing it every which way but I am admittedly not as good at it as some of the guys in here and didn't know where to start. While I enjoyed the experience of Linux in general immensely, I wasn't ready to sacrifice my hardware and went back to Windows. I couldn't help but notice that the CPU was running at 91c for a while when I returned so it looks like it was definitely about to damage something. I've since purchased Bitdefender to at least have some _sense_ of security in Windows in the meantime. As for BMW, I don't see what you might have against the company since its cars are beyond awesome and pick up brain-dead women (the majority of them) like a 15" cock. > <quote> > Using a special blend of aesthetics and functionality, Korora aims to > make Linux easier for new users without compromising its power and > flexibility for experts. > > We provide a complete and easy to use computing system that "Just Works" > – right out of the box. > </quote> > > > Know anyone who uses both products? :) Even though you're a dick, you know I still like you, right? -- Silver Tongued-Heel OpenMedia & EFF Member Gab.ai: @silverslimer

It's not because I didn't like the experience. In fact, I felt very safe in Linux and found that I spent more time focusing on my work rather than wondering if things needed to be scanned for viruses or cleaned for performance. However, if a system is constantly freezing on me (five times in a row last night), not playing certain music files in a situation which seems unfixable in addition to giving me screen colour issues, I might not be ready. You may need to see a shrink about these commitment issues. Now that you're back, doesn't it feel better to run a real, non-hobbyist OS that doesn't flake out on you on the regular? > I couldn't help but notice that the CPU was running at 91c for > a while when I returned so it looks like it was definitely about to > damage something. > > I've since purchased Bitdefender to at least have some _sense_ of > security in Windows in the meantime. I still love Linux and will eventually make my way back but I wasn't sure what those freezes were doing to my hardware, couldn't fix them and wasn't willing to take the chance that it might end up cooking something and forcing a replacement. What you consider to be commitment issues I see as a desire to get out of proprietary operating systems completely but an inability to do so effectively. Like I said in another post, I wouldn't have been willing to return to Windows if I hadn't found an anti-virus which truly defends against malware. >> I couldn't help but notice that the CPU was running at 91c for >> a while when I returned so it looks like it was definitely about to >> damage something. >> >> I've since purchased Bitdefender to at least have some _sense_ of >> security in Windows in the meantime. > > "in the meantime"? Does that mean a return to Linux is imminent? Of course. There's a reason I keep going back and forth and getting so frustrated when it doesn't work out. I kept pointing the finger at Linux itself but it's not necessarily the whole issue. Marek has made it fairly clear to me that I need to increase my knowledge of the operating system before I can truly hope to use it on a day-to-day basis so I'll read more, learn more and eventually get back to it. >> As for BMW, I don't see what you might have against the company since >> its cars are beyond awesome and pick up brain-dead women (the majority >> of them) like a 15" cock. > > I have nothing against BMW - if you like to hugely overpay the same way > you have to for Apple gear. In the three years that I've owned my BMW, the _one_ issue I had with it is that cluster screwed up (what manages the infotainment set-up). It was replaced for free and was such an unlikely problem that the mechanics were totally stumped by it. I had to get a piece from Germany directly since it's the kind of thing that _never_ fails. In every other way, it's spectacular. Compare that to my Volvo s40 from 2001 and my Jeep Patriot, both of which would break if a gust of wind was too strong, and you can understand why I'm willing to remain in the BMW camp. Besides, when my cluster broke, I asked for a BMW X3 and drove it for a day... it was the most brilliant driving experience I had ever had. >>> <quote> >>> Using a special blend of aesthetics and functionality, Korora aims to >>> make Linux easier for new users without compromising its power and >>> flexibility for experts. >>> >>> We provide a complete and easy to use computing system that "Just Works" >>> – right out of the box. >>> </quote> >>> >>> >>> Know anyone who uses both products? :) >> >> Even though you're a dick, you know I still like you, right? > > Of course! If you truly want to make this switch you have to stop running away when things get difficult. You have to be able to overcome issues or at least switch to a distro that is easier until such time you find it is no longer needed. Lots of Linux users distro-hop and find it part of the fun. I would suggest Ubuntu and/or Mint for the general purpose user. And then the next time you buy hardware you buy with Linux in mind so that you don't experience problems. If I am using Fedora I expect an issue here and there with my manual installation of the nvidia drivers. But that same Fedora install with a good intel GPU is no problem at all. If I wanted to use Steam I might go with Ubuntu / Mint as both make working with nvidia quite simple and adding steam is a piece of pie. -- Marek Novotný https://github.com/marek-novotny
