He had his file, but because he didn't have the "approved copy" according to Apple corporate policy, he lost the use of it. Get it? Linux never says "Oh, you have your file, but not the official approved copy - DELETE! EXTERMINATE!" Errors happen, for sure, in ALL OSes. But Apple deliberately deleted his file. THAT is the difference.
