Common software was:
1) Word processing (like Wordstar)
2) Spreadsheet (Like Supercalc)
3) Database (Like DBASE II)
4) Programming (like MBASIC or CBASIC, and ASM that came with CP/M)
5) Utilities (like Disk76, Sweep, LU)
6) Communications (like MODEM, XMODEM, BYE, and various RCP/M and BBS 
software)

Less common were specialty software like :
a) programming in other languages (C, Pascal, Lisp, Forth, etc.)
b) business packages (accounts receivable/payable, payroll, etc.)
