I understand exactly why you suggest I not link to the current APK on F-Droid, where the reason I do that is simply that's the file I download. However, to your point, not only is that link destined to become stale over time, but most people actually use the F-Droid app itself to install. While they should be using "Fdroid Basic" instead of the F-Droid app, either way, by letting the app do it, they get auto-update advantages. I do not get automatic update advantages by downloading the specific APK. But then again, that's exactly how I want it to be (so it works for me). So, while I may still provide the link & hash to the APK that I downloaded and installed and tested, I do fully understand why you suggested that. > <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.calendar/> > <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.contacts/> > <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.filemanager/> > <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.messages/> > <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.fossify.phone/> The issue is always whether the phone app will display the caller ID. When we use the Fossify phone+messages+contacts+calendar, it does. The caveat of course is you have to like all of those apps, in order for the situation to work as planned, whereas with OpenContacts, you can choose which calendar, messages, phone, and calendar app to link it up with. Supposedly you don't see the caller id with OpenContacts, but I happen to see it so I'm a bit confused about how it works in practice. I need to test it further... > And you can use DAVx5 (former known as DAVDroid) to synchronize and your > calendar and contacts via CalDAV/CardDAV to your own Nextcloud server: Syncing to your own server is the holy grail, for sure, but for me, I've tried many of the servers but, really, they just don't work on Windows. If someone has Linux though, they work wonderfully so that is a great suggestion for a calendar that stays offline while accessing contacts. > > <https://www.davx5.com> > <https://f-droid.org/packages/at.bitfire.davdroid/> You mean <https://f-droid.org/repo/at.bitfire.davdroid_405100003.apk> (just kidding). If I could come up with a calendar-sync process that works with a Windows server, that would be useful, but I've never been able to accomplish it. -- On Usenet, old friends discuss topics of interest to learn from each other.
