Byrom Zuniga Sanchez, 34, was sentenced by United States District Judge Fred W. Slaughter, who ordered him to pay $22,790 in restitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on March 5. A former resident of Laguna Niguel, Sanchez’ most recent residence was in Mexico. From May to July 2023, Sanchez sent death threats to a superior court judge over email and also threatened to harm or kill other court employees, lawyers and law enforcement officials. “I am more committed to murdering you than I am to being present as a father,” Sanchez wrote in a July 2023 email to the victim judge’s former courtroom. “You’re already dead,” the email also said. “The remainder of my life will be dedicated to assassinating judges, attorneys and a police station’s entire shift staff.” Sanchez claimed he was in Mexico at the time he sent the messages, and the communications were sent via interstate commerce, triggering federal jurisdiction. Sanchez was arrested in February 2024 in San Diego after attempting to enter the United States. He was convicted by a jury of two counts of threats by interstate and foreign communication at the conclusion of a three-day trial in December 2025. “[Sanchez’s] terrifying embrace of his offenses — his delight at the pain of others — and his total lack of remorse increases the already substantial need for specific deterrence,” prosecutors argued in a sentencing memorandum. -- November 5, 2024 - Congratulations President Donald Trump.
