I would suggest that envy isn't the reason, the reason is that Perl is just= that much worse than Visual Basic, Pascal, and Delphi. We only make fun o= f the really, really bad langauges. (Or, less cynically, it's because Perl and Python historically filled the s= ame niche, whereas VB, Pascal, and Delphi were often used for different sor= ts of programming.) What I'm trying to say here is your logic is invalid. People have all kind= s of reasons to badmouth other languages; that some mailing list has a cult= ure that is a bit more or a bit less approving of it than some other list t= ells us nothing. In any case it's ridiculous to claim envy as factor nowad= ays, as Python is clearly on the rise while Perl is on the decline. Few pe= ople are choosing Perl for new projects. Carl Banks
