Especially true for programs compiled under DOS. IIRC, a com file was a memory limited executable file that was only generated under DOS. However, I was able to get the 80's era executables to run in a DOSBOX on Ubuntu. I also tried to un-arc the files using peazip. Peazip reports that the archives are password protected. How odd. Anyway, the DOSBOX trick on linux worked for me.
