Except for the commas!

I looked up comma operator but am still confused.

Wouldn't this be OK (better?)

var el = (typeof obj == 'string') ? document.getElementById(obj) : obj;
       w = el.offsetWidth ;
       h = el.offsetHeight;
      ...
