I don't see it in the Java Control Panel applet either. There is a Sun Java Update Scheduler jusched.exe that runs when Windows starts. Disable it, and you're good to go. Unfortunately I can't remember whether it's in one of the Startup folders or in the Registry, because I got rid of it long ago. You can use a startup manager like CodeStuff Starter to disable it.
