Try the following:

JTextPane edit=new JTextPane();
try {
	SimpleAttributeSet attrs=new SimpleAttributeSet();
	StyleConstants.setAlignment(attrs,StyleConstants.ALIGN_RIGHT);
	StyledDocument doc=(StyledDocument)edit.getDocument();
	doc.insertString(0,"test",attrs);
	doc.setParagraphAttributes(0,doc.getLength()-1,attrs,false);
}
