I'd point to Wikipedia as a very reasonable example - while it's distinctly styled in a modern browser, the styling doesn't get in the way of readability or usability (for the most part - not a fan of the floating contents bar they added in recent years, but that's a fairly minor nitpick) and it degrades very gracefully indeed; perfectly readable in ELinks, lynx, and even w3m.
