Joysticks are also used for operating heavy duty civilian machinery,
often using the same high end professional joysticks as their military
counterparts .  For example, Airbus airliners use joysticks, presumably 
the same ones as Airbus military planes .

Gaming joysticks were usually primitive switch-based models giving no 
more control than the arrow keys on a keyboard .
