Hello,
my name is brother Stefan.
I preach about the song Confidence at a retreat on the weekend. The= y write that it is a three-part sermon series, but unfortunately I can only= find the Hope like Moses sermon. Is it possible to get the other two? Many= thanks and greetings from Germany
Daniel l= ived in captivity in Babylon along with his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and = Abednego. Though they faced pressures to conform to Babylonian society and = give up the ways of their people, they stood strong in their faith, and God= blessed Daniel with wisdom and the ability to interpret dreams. When he wa= s called before King Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel was able to interpret what his = dream meant without even hearing it! The dream foretold the future conqueri= ng of the Babylonian kingdom. Because of his interpretation of the dream, D= aniel was appointed to be ruler of the province of Babylon and chief prefec= t over all the wise men of Babylon.

The story of Daniel in the lion's den teaches = us about the promises and faithfulness of God, even if we feel like everyth= ing has been lost. This is a summary of the Biblical account of Daniel's re= fusal to bow to man and how God used Daniel to save a nation. You can read = more in-depth Bible verses from the Scripture below and use the articles an= d videos to understand the meaning behind this teachable event in the Bible= .
2) Some are facing a sinful habit that is= ready to pounce....
- it is like God said to Cain --= - sin is crouching outside your door, ready to devour you.
=
- and you want to have victory....and you want to get to a better pla= ce.....
- but the power of sin and the power of your = own lusts and the power of the enemy is incredible strong....
- and it is like a lion that wants to eat you up.....and some may = feel like the lion is winning.....
Daniel w= as a man like David, a man of integrity. "So he shepherded them according t= o the integrity of his heart" (Psalm 78:72). Wiersbe observes that "Integri= ty means having one heart (see Give Me An Undivided Heart), whereas a doubl= e-minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8-note). David's sole pur= pose was to serve the Lord. David was a man of ability. He "guided them by = the skillfulness of his hands" (Psalm 78:72). Integrity ties your heart and= your hands together. Your heart serves the Lord, and your hands are busy f= or Him. We need people like that today. No amount of dedication can compens= ate for a lack of skill, but no amount of skill can compensate for a lack o= f dedication. We need both. David exhibited the traits of a true ruler--hum= ility, integrity and ability. They also are required of you for faithful se= rvice. Where has God placed you for service? Are you a faithful leader or f= ollower? He rewards His faithful servants. Dedicate yourself to the Lord to= day and serve Him faithfully.... Integrity is the key word. David was a man= of integrity. Saul was a man of duplicity. He was double-minded, looking i= n two directions at once. But David kept his eyes on the Lord." As I like t= o say David (and Daniel) were men of "VERTICAL VISION (see note)" "living e= ach day with a heart toward heaven" in contrast to living with your eyes on= the world ("HORIZONTAL VISION.")
A GOOD NA= ME - Daniel had a Good Name (Daniel 1:20, 21-note, Daniel 5:11-note, Daniel= 6:3-note) - "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches." (Prove= rbs 22:1) Followers of Jesus Christ (of which Daniel was an OT representati= ve!) are called to be people of integrity. They are to be upright and hones= t, choosing a good name above riches (Prov. 22:1) in a world that is seekin= g quite the opposite. In a poll of executives, for example, Gallup discover= ed that 80 percent admit to driving while drunk, 35 percent overstate tax d= eductions, 75 percent take work supplies for personal use, and 78 percent u= se the company phone for personal long distance calls. A study by the Offic= e of Technology Assessment determined that one-third of the US government's= telephone bill is spent on personal calls. Time theft and unauthorized abs= enteeism are also common offenses in the workplace. General Motors reports = losing 9 percent of employee hours due to absenteeism. White-collar crime i= n the US is estimated at $40 billion per year. The Lord desires that His pe= ople act in a different way. We are always to do what is right and to speak= the truth (Ps. 15:2). Integrity pleases Him, and it also benefits us. It g= ives us blessings far better than riches: freedom from guilt, a positive wi= tness for Christ, and an intimate relationship with God. A good name is tru= ly a priceless possession! --D C Egner
"Dar= e to be a Daniel." That's the title of a fairly well known children's song.= You may know Daniel a little from the Old Testament book named after him. = And you are probably most familiar with the story of his surviving a night = in a lion's den. The king had placed him there after Daniel was caught diso= beying the king by worshiping God.
Well, th= e issue upfront here was about obedience to God. It wasn't that being train= ed for government service or taking on a secular leadership position was ba= d. In fact, gifted Israelites could become very influential in their new so= ciety. No, the issue was whether the people of Israel would embrace pagan g= ods as part of their new society. Going along with the king's proposal mean= t they had to give up certain faith priorities. It meant they would have to= change their faith walk. And that is what Satan wants. So what better plac= e for this all to start than in the dining room; what better way than throu= gh the stomachs of hungry young men.
As we = read earlier, we already know that it worked. All of them, except for four,= were willing to give up some part of their faith, and go for the food. It = was a step forward for Satan. Once Satan gets his foot in the door and gets= people to take the first step of disobeying God - and somehow justify that= disobedience - the next steps get easier. They're easier because you are a= lready heading down a road away from God. Nebuchadnezzar knew what he was d= oing.
This is a worship album, unlike most worship albums out there. Kings= Porch keeps the music accompaniment minimal (praise God!), with an acoustic= flavor. They rely on a simple but interesting melody and strong lyrics to = give the song interest, emotion, and depth.
Could we have the courage to live out our faith like Liddell? Too often we= are tempted to care way too much about what others say about us. If Eric c= ould endure the toxic & false muckraking, perhaps we could as well.
Daniel had been protected because he was faithful = to God and because he had placed his trust in Him. God sees all that we do = and He knows when we are treated unfairly. Continue to be faithful and trus= t Him to protect you and to help you in your difficulty. (Write under Conse= quences: A consequence to faithfulness to God is having His protection.) It= takes daily discipline to be faithful to God. We must spend time each day = praying to Him and reading His Word if we are going to be strong in our fai= th like Daniel was.
God can use your faith = to make you a witness to others. God will reveal Himself to your friends ju= st as he did to King Darius. When you have the courage to stand strong, you= may give another friend that same courage. You can set an example in faith= and in purity for others to follow.
The Ph= ilistines were a tribe from the Aegean Sea who had settled along the coast = ofPalestine, bringing with them the roots of the Greek culture. The Greek c= ulture was given to theworship of many different deities or gods and goddes= ses. The Philistines would of believed thatmultiple gods watched over them = and directed their daily events, and would flock to shrinescalled oracles t= o have their future told by the priest or priestesses. Families and individ= uals triedto please the gods with offerings and ceremonies. The Philistines= entered the land of Canaanabout the same time as the children of Israel di= d and were a very sophisticated, highly complex, extremely warlike people. T= hey learned the art of iron smelting from the Hittite's and had themilitary= and economic advantage over the Israelites. (The ancient Greek culture mad= e lastingcontributions to our own Western civilization in the form of the a= rts, government, philosophy, mathematics and athletics all which influence o= ur lives today.) They were a thorn in the side of Israel. The Philistines w= ere at the time of Saul, and may very well represent in our lives today, en= emiesof God. Goliath stood as a symbol of those things that were against th= e teachings of God. President Spencer W. Kimball spoke of modern day Goliat= hs and warned:
As a youth David had been ta= ught the principle of faith. He had put his faith in the Lordas he tended a= nd protected his father's sheep. David recognized that it was not by his ow= n powerthat he had killed the bear and the lion, it was by the power of God= . With that faith David metGoliath.
While s= erving a mission in Oklahoma I met Rick. Rick was 16 years old and wassearc= hing for the truth. Through a young woman, who was a strong member of the c= hurch, Rickbegan taking the missionary lessons. He believed the message and= wanted to be baptized. However, he needed his parents permission, who woul= d not agree to his embracing the gospel, and would not give their permission= . He was told that if he did join the Church that he would beevicted from h= is home and his family would disown him. Rick had a decision to make. Other= shave had to make the same decision between Church and family, perhaps some= of you heretoday. But Rick's situation was a bit different. Rick was blind= , had no eyesight and was totallydependent upon his family. The young woman= that had introduced him to the gospel had readthe Book of Mormon to him an= d by exercising his faith and prayer he had gained a testimony ofthe truthf= ulness of that book. He picked up the smooth stone of faith, and made the d= ecision tobe baptized. His parents were true to their promise and Rick did = loose his home and family. Butthrough one miracle after another, Rick was b= lessed with another home, support and means toprogress and grow in the gosp= el and life. Rick was able to defeat his Goliath by exercising faith.
