Nicholas Sparks Books Made Into Movies

Kevin Costner and Robin Wright starred in the 1999 film "Message in a Bottle," based on Nicholas Sparks' book about a woman who discovers a love letter in a bottle on a beach and is determined to track down its author. "Message in Bottle" was the first Sparks book to be made into a movie.


Eleven of Sparks's books have been turned into films, four of which he produced, including The Choice, The Longest Ride, The Best of Me, and Safe Haven. Seven other of his books have also adapted for film: The Lucky One, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John, The Last Song, and The Notebook.[27] Films based on his novels have grossed $889,615,166 worldwide, while the Rotten Tomatoes scores range from 11% for The Choice[28] to 53% for The Notebook, the most critically acclaimed film based on his work.[29]

Since the late 1990s, Nicholas Sparks movies have become a recognizable subgenre within romance films. Eleven of Sparks's novels have been made into feature films, and these formulaic movies are known for reducing audiences to tears. Outside the fact each adaptation is based on a novel written by the author, there are several hallmarks that separate a cheesy but classic Nicholas Sparks movie from just any romance film. North Carolina often serves as the backdrop of these movies, as Sparks resides in the southern state. Also, the couples must face some sort of obstacle. And movies based on Sparks's novels tackle intense storylines including terminal illness, military deployment, and classism.


Before starring in The Last Song, Cyrus was primarily known for her title role on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. The Last Song proved to be a breakout acting role for Cyrus, and her contribution to the movie's soundtrack, "When I Look at You," made it into the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. While Cyrus and Hemsworth's real-life relationship helped their chemistry in the movie, the highlight of the film is the trio of Cyrus, Coleman, and Kinnear. Together, the three actors make the familial tropes of The Last Song believable.


More than seventeen years of crying a river over Nicholas Sparks movies that we all love to hate are coming to an end. Last month, Nicholas Sparks Productions, the company owned by the author which turned several of his books into films, announced it is shutting down.


I have watched a lot of these movies but would never read his books! He is so arrogant and i would not waste my time reading these books and probably will never watch a movie based on one of his books again! You could not be more right about him. Who does he thing he is putting down other writers when he can barely write himself. I get so tired of unhappy endings regardless of what kind of writer he thinks he is. Someone always has to die in his movies, melodramatic or not I have wasted my time and money watching the movies to begin with!

When I was reading Beauty Queens, I was literally trying to cast the movie in my head. Not only did I LOVE the book with all of its wonderful satire, over-the-top characters, and serious critiques of race, gender, sexuality, capitalism, and the concept of beauty in America but, I also wanted it to be made into a movie right away. It would definitely be a movie that I would pay to go see.

By the end of the '90s, these books were increasingly drawing the attention of producers, who found there was money to be made in ticket (and Kleenex) sales by attaching stars to his tales of romance. He published his famous book, The Notebook, through an agent, Theresa Park, who approached him with no history of printed books but helped him become a best seller. His book was availed in 45 languages and became a big start for other published books. Spark has had outstanding success in writing. With deep sorrow, he learned of his father's death in a car accident. Nicholas Sparks' family consists of five children with his ex-wife Cathy including Landon, Miles, Savannah, Lexie, and Ryan.


The novel is tragic and beautiful, and the ending is perfect. It's also a novel about forgiveness and relationships, which is why it's so hard to forget. It is the first Sparks novel set in the ''old country,'' which inspired other novels, including His Best Offer and The Lucky One. It has sold more than 60 million copies in 50 languages and has been made into a major motion picture. It was adapted to screen in 1994.


The films made from his books have made a cumulative profit of more than a billion dollars. Sparks' books have been turned into successful movies, including The Notebook (2004) and Dear John (2010). Other books that have also been adapted for the film include A Walk to Remember (2002) and The Longest Ride (2015). Sparks' books have also been made into successful stage plays. For example, The Notebook and The Wedding have been performed on stage in the U.S., England, and Germany. Other movies include The Last Song of 2010, Safe Haven, produced in 2013, and The Choice, produced in 2016.


Real-life stories have inspired sparks' incredible love novels, and most of his books have been used to produce films by Hollywood and made more than a billion collectively. Sparks' breakthrough came after meeting Theresa, who sold his manuscript to Warner Books and soon, his book The Notebook became a best-seller. He also has other books, including The Longest Ride and A Walk to Remember, which also made it for screening as films.

There are five in particular that are my personal favorites and I would love to see them be made into movies. If you have not read these five Sparks books, add them to your reading list immediately because they are just as good (if not better) than his more popular work.


"The Guardian" is my absolute favorite. As great as the other books on this list are, this one just takes the cake. If you are an animal/dog lover, you will adore this novel. Julie is the main character and her incredible dog was a gift that her deceased husband had delivered to her after his death. Their relationship is amazing and her dog really helps Julie cope with the loss of her husband. He is also her greatest protector. Soon, Julie considers dating a man named Richard or her husband's old friend, Mike. Julie wisely follows her instincts about the two men but that leaves someone angry and looking for revenge. This book is not at all predictable and you will never see the plot twist that comes around. It gets more intense than I ever expected it to but that made it into a book that I could not put down. This book deals with love, loss, jealousy, protection, happiness, fear, and the unbreakable bond between a dog and his owner. You just have to read this book. It surprised me so much and I never expected to love it as much as I do (it would also make a fantastic film)! This is Nicholas Sparks at his finest and is one of his absolute best novels.
