Our dear friend Jon McGrew passed away on August 27, 2025. I cannot find the words to express my sadness on his passing. He leaves a huge hole in our lives that can never be filled. I miss him so. The last time I saw him was when he stopped by for a visit on his outward trip to a type setters conference, just two old guys shooting the breeze on APL. He talked a lot about the early days of his career before APL came into his life, and then his epiphany upon seeing APL. He recounted stories about struggling to get APL characters into print, especially with the IBM internal publication JotDotTimes and the special issue of the IBM Systems Journal on APL. Typesetting was in his father's blood and then his. We couldn't have had a better representative than Jon whenever APL text needed to be presented beautifully. He was such a class act with a keen sense of humor to match. For this and many other achievements, he received the Kenneth E. Iverson Award for Outstanding Contributions to APL in 2001. -- _________________________________________ Bob Smith -- bsmith@sudleydeplacespam.com http://www.sudleyplace.com - http://www.nars2000.org To reply to me directly, delete "despam".
