Newsgroup articles/messages seen by that particular server since it
began carrying that group, so it's a local count, not a world-wide
count.  It's also not necessarily a count of how many articles are still
available from that server, since news servers can have whatever
expiration policy they wish for each newsgroup, including "never".
["expiration": discard articles older than N days after receipt.]  If
you were to set up your own news server, its article numbers would begin
at 1 in each group and increase indefinitely.
