Blender is not just a powerful GUI tool, it also has a batch mode that can be invoked from the command line. I wrote a set of scripts <https://gitlab.com/ldo/render-useful> that take advantage of this to perform batch-style tasks like automated rendering and frame file renumbering. I also added utilities like packing up a .blend file and its dependencies into an archive file (e.g. for uploading to a render farm), and checking for missing dependencies.
