If you compiled it yourself, presumably it's not incorporated into your 
package manager?  If that's the case, can't you just delete the files? 
You might need to search out any (symbolic) links, I suppose...  If 
there are any.

If it is being managed by your package manager, then you'd use that to 
uninstall it.
