Sorry for the late reply, back when I was using emacs more I found I had
the best luck using the export and open as html option at which point I
would copy what was on the web browser screen and paste it into
confluence.

It worked reasonably well but that was back before they switched to the
new editor, so it might work better/worse now. Best of luck.
