Usenet partially fulfills Licklider and Taylor's vision of
"The Computer as a Communication Device" by enabling global,
decentralized communication and knowledge sharing.
It allowed users to engage in online discussions,
aligning with their concept of interconnectedness.
However, Usenet evolved differently by focusing on threaded discussions rather
than real-time collaboration. While it realized aspects
of collective intelligence, it lacked the immersive, interactive environments
Licklider and Taylor envisioned, like advanced personal computing
for synchronous collaboration or dynamic multimedia integration.
