I'm still waiting for them to complete removing of the old menu
structure. This was what Wildfire was designed for. Then WF2, then
WF3, then WF4, and then WF5, wait, we're at WF5, and they didn't
complete it yet? Now talk about Lightning? How much do you want to
bet, no upgrade to Lightning. I should sent PTC the 3-legged-stool
award (for milking it's customers). Sorry for the rant, you reminded me
of what Wildfire was for. Anyway, you need a complete rewrite of the
code for multi-threaded capability. If I remember correctly, way back
in the past, Pro-Eng was written with a programming language called
Galaxy. This was a multi-platform C language. They went out of
business, 2 years later PTC announced Wildfire. My guess is they needed
to re-code to use a different Multi-platform compiler, so if their going
through this task, they may as well improve Pro-Engineer. Now I guess,
to completely rewrite the code for multi-threading they may as well make
it a next generation and call it Lightning.

So, Lightning will probably be multi-threaded. You'll notice, nothing
was done for customers but only out of necessity.

Paul

Paul, the only necessity I’ve noticed them responding to is competition from Solidworks. And then, really, they’d rather make an end run around the competition by buying up yet another company so that Pro/e-Creo is just another piece of the puzzle, nothing special, certainly not the keystone of the arch, certainly not the cornerstone of the whole edifice. Just another piece of software to piddle with and a
user base to exploit as we watch it all unfold in its own sweet time and in whatever direction the Gurus decide is best for us. Jim Almighty has his business development paradigm; we are just his pawns.
