#61539 — strange situation with Optus NBN

Optus have told me my FTTB NBN is still pending.

The NBN technician plugged my Optus modem into the phone line.

I now have a connection with a speed of 20-30Mbps.

My Optus order is saying it's not yet activated and I have no account
number and have no account or login details. I have not been charged
anything. Usually you would get an account ID or username. I haven't
been given anything.

The building manager in my building says 'we are still on the copper'.

I don't know what that means. Am I maybe connected to the NBN fibre via
the copper network in the building?

Yes look up fibre to the node FTTN, it is essentially the same except
the node is in your building instead of a green box in the street.
from where the fibre ends the old copper phone wire goes to your unit
and you put the new modem in the same place as the old.

I've received an email from the strata that FTTP is almost complete and
the switchover from FTTB will be very soon.

You may soon wish you never got it and want your ADSL back (assuming
that's what you currently have)... be warned.

Even sillier than you usually manage, and that's saying something.

That the building manager doesn’t have a fucking clue.

Yep, that’s how FTTB works.

But you should be getting a hell of a lot better than 20-30Mbps.

You should be using the synch speeds reported by the modem.

Looks like you are using speedtest or something over wifi.
