The way I suggest you do if you are worried about it is go to this site
http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/,

Select GWX Control Panel which is a free program that runs on Windows 7 and
8. Once you run it, it will stop the constant nagging to upgrade to Windows
10, it will prevent you from downloading the version 10 installer files and
it hides the "Get Windows 10" icon from the status bar too.

To disable W10 upgrade

1) Open the Registry Editor (search for regedit in the Start Menu
    and run it).

2) Set DisableOSUpgrade to 1 in
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

3) Set ReservationsAllowed to 0 in
   HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade

See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351

How old is that information?
I've read one claim(non-main stream) in the last week that MS is checking
for that setting and overwriting. Probably not the case if it isn't
mainstream.

Only vaguely related is Ars articles that Intel skylake users will have
to upgrade within 18months to get upgraded drivers.

Works well. There is some tools around the place to disable most of the
spy wear in win 10 if you feel the need.

I am told that win 10 will become an automatic update fore everyone who
has not upgraded. Turn off auto updates may be the only way to stick
with 7 or 8

Ars Technica has a very recent article on who gets what; consumer or
business domain.

I've never had a single problem of any sort with my pirated copy of
Win 7, been using it for about 4 years now. I'm glad I didn't bother
with a legit version.

I'm new to Win 7 but I think the nagger is an optional update. I choose
what to update to and have not encountered the nagger, but I saw it
mentioned when I looked through the long list of optional updates.
I read somewhere on the web how to uninstall it too.
