Paul, I'm using antix and I don't use networkmanager for many years and
remove it, first I check to see if net-tools is installed, if not, I
install 'net-tools' and then install 'wicd' and it works with no
problem, plus antix installs 'ceni' for wifi. As far as printing goes, I
have not needed a printer in many years and it badly needs service that
I don't want to do because I don't seem to need it. As for reading about
problems in the mx linux forum it's pretty well known that new users and
there are many, fail to read instructions and searching for help, they
don't know where to start. So, they ask for help, and you have to tell
them how to find what you need to know so you can help them.

So, how you doing?

I did a recent clean install of antix-19.3-core and then installed
plasma-desktop, workspace, etc. and I did not install any PIM, personal
information management, kmail, etc. Things I like about mx linux is
user-management, with that you have to install mx-apt and remove
antix-apt, that and install chroot-rescue-mx while removing chroot. And
install gksu, kde-servicemenu-rootactions, mx-pkexec, mx-user,
sddm-modified-init and I like the mx-sound-theme-borealis so I install
it too. As far as antix goes, just install the latest kernel, 5-8-16 and
header. Need help let me know, I do know kde pretty good and can test
other things that I don't personally use.

I did another install while writing this, it's getting easier for me to
do the kde5 install while using synaptic I look at meta desktops and
make sure the required packages that I need get installed for the
packages I want to use. Do that and you will see why both mx and antix
do not install debian recommends by default, just to many 'smart'
packages want to be installed, a automated smart computer is not what I
want. Easy to please and quick response when I click and long up-times
is what I want. And systemd-shim was never installed.
