My current understanding is that the usual 'strategy' for 'converting' an .iso which was 'built' for burning as an optical and making it into a hybrid which can also be written to USB is to use the utility isohybrid on an ISO 9660 image which was created by such as mkisofs (or others) to make the hybrid.
