On the subject MSI board with 'legacy' *radeon 5770*
Max resolution 640x480/720x400/720x480
(Fresh Devuan & Debian installs)
==================================================

these are the only dmesg lines that include radeon or amd:

[ 48.141838] [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
[   48.168995] [drm:radeon_pci_probe [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon kernel
modesetting for R600 or later requires firmware installed
[   48.169249] See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for information
about missing firmware
[ 51.148548] [drm] amdgpu kernel modesetting enabled.
[ 51.148716] amdgpu: CRAT table not found
[ 51.148720] amdgpu: Virtual CRAT table created for CPU
[ 51.148732] amdgpu: Topology: Add CPU node

/etc/apt/sources.list is only 3 lines

deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-updates main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged daedalus-security main

lsmod shows amdgpu AND radeon modules loaded but used by 0

On my asus crosshair with a somewhat less legacy *radeon x590*:
Max resolution 1280x1024
(Fresh Devuan install or upgrade, don't remember, no Debian
yet but there will be soon)
=============================================================

dmesg:

[ 41.282068] [drm] amdgpu kernel modesetting enabled.
[ 41.282202] amdgpu: CRAT table not found
[ 41.282205] amdgpu: Virtual CRAT table created for CPU
[ 41.282221] amdgpu: Topology: Add CPU node

firmware installed
[   41.282705] amdgpu: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for

/etc/apt/sources.list is only 1 line: the DVD
