But if it doesn't, prepare an OpenSearch XML file for the site (MDN
documents the structure, or there may be online generators -- the one I
found only worked on FF, not SM). The image width/height have to match
the actual icon size (guess how I know).

taking account of the SM-specific instructions, select your file and
import it: on success you get a dialog box message and the search engine
appears in the search engine pull-down and Manage Search Engines dialog.
