Isn't this thread off-topic? I did a good job of filtering out all the flames and trolls from uk.politics.misc, but by the end of it there was nothing left. Gnus has some good features for filterning out cross-posted groups, and certain re-occuring themes in subjects. It would be good if Thunderbird could apply its spam filtering to newsgroups, or maybe it can these days?
