In our country - The Netherlands - there's no such catering, not to the advertisers, not to the governement (quite the contrary) and not to the owners. And yes, our publications do depend on advertizing and subscriptions. Their owners run a business (mostly with shareholders), but that doesn't mean they get to decide what (not) gets written. The editorial office (Google translation of Dutch 'redactie) is largely independant. The stunt which Bezos pulled with 'his' newspaper could never happen here.
